It's perfect for me October 11, 2008 I just bought it for my 80gb iPod. It perfectly fits the ipod and looks really good. It protects the wheel and the screen without limiting functioning. I do not have a dock to see if it fits, but for using it in the car it's perfect...
Use the case designed for 60GB iPod instead... September 22, 2008 I have been a huge fan of the Belkin Remix Metal case for the iPod 5.5 Gen (with video) for years now - I've actually purchased a second one to replace the first when it was scratched up. That case was almost exactly like having the ipod in my hand without a case at all, and the iPod I've had in it doesn't have a mark thanks to it.
So, I upgraded to the 160gb ipod Classic and purchased this case for it, thinking it would be nice to have a completely clear case. This case is, without any good reason, thicker on all sides than the previous version and the click-wheel cover is plastic, not silicon, which does not allow easy click-wheel operation. In addition to that, the plastic covering my click-wheel was a bit warped which meant I lost contact with the wheel every time I rounded the bottom portion of it unless I used quite a bit of pressure. The additional thickness also prevented the iPod form fitting on my dock each day which was perfect with the old case as long as I didn't use a dock insert.
So, it just occurred to me that I should try to put the new iPod in the old case and, guess what, it works. Perfectly. Sorry Belkin, you changed a good thing and ruined it.
Better than some September 17, 2008 I found that this case was good at doing it's job, but it made it hard to use the iPod. It has a membrane over the circle and does not always allow it to change the volume or move from item to item on the iPod. It has taken some serious beatings and the iPod is still unharmed. I am considering a new case so I can see the screen past all the scratches on the case.
Great product! March 21, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This case allows me to have the smallest possible case with maximum protection. It is also clear, so I can see the original color of my ipod. I'm very happy with it, and have owned it for about 6 months now. I would get another one if something happened to it.
pretty good for the price, but not perfect... January 6, 2008 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
This is the first case I have bought for my 80GB iPod Classic, but am thinking about investing in another one. It was cheaper than a lot of the other cases I saw, but looked pretty solid with its clear acrylic construction. I like how it covers every inch of the iPod surface, including the click wheel and screen, only leaving openings for the crucial access points (dock connector, headphone outlet, and hold button). Manipulating the click wheel through the thin plastic feels a little weird at first, though I guess you get used to it--it's still pretty responsive, but the texture just doesn't feel nearly as smooth as the original click wheel surface itself. There's a little more friction, and the center button has a bit of a raised bubble over it.. I guess this plascticy feeling is the trade-off that must be made for having complete protection.
This product's biggest flaw is the ease with which the cover comes off when your iPod is accidentally dropped. For most everyday use, this is not a big danger, and the case serves its function as advertised: the hard acrylic will protect the surface against almost anything... as long as it stays on. It is for putting your iPod in your pocket without worrying about dust and scratches. It is lightweight, durable and fairly cheap. Just be forewarned: all it takes is one accidental droppage in the wrong place, and your iPod can still be easily damaged. The first time I got it into my car, it slipped out of my hand and hit the gearshift. The case flew apart immediately, and my pod ended up on the floor of my car, thankfully right-side up. Even if the headphones are plugged in, the top part of the case can still come off upon sudden impact. :( The sides could always be taped to make the case more secure (which I may end up doing instead of buying a different case), but this would just accentuate the poor design and diminish the aesthetic value.
I also wasn't sure why Belkin chose to include both wide and thin trays in the same package for either the 80GB OR the 160GB Classic models, as I am certain most customers will throw the extra tray away, resulting in a lot of wasted acrylic. That bugged me a little too.
