Maxell cd-r Pro series October 24, 2008

These Maxell cds came in a great shape. No damage box. I had purchased two of them. They can be hard to find in the stores. I have used them and they have a great quality. I know the price is a great price. I will order them again when I need more of them. I use them for saving my photos. They stay true to the colors and they are very clear. I like the idea also that they have extra protection for nonscratching. This is a very strong decision when I want my photos on the cds to last. I would highly recommend these cds. Maxell has done a great job. They were delivered very quickly. I also would rate this company who I ordered with a five star for packaging and delivery.

Review of a particular brand of CD-R disc is probably going to be a relatively subjective exercise depending on ones particular needs or use of that brand of disc. To begin with, what are your expectations of a CD-R disc, obviously it must do a reasonably good job of recording music and data. What about the disc's physical dimensions? Disc diameter seems to be pretty consistant from brand to brand, but what about the thickness of a disc? Can it accommodate the additional thickness of a disc label without jamming up in your car's CD player or even in a component player in your audio system? I have had these problems in my truck player and in my wife's car player. My audio system has a top loading CD player and is therefore not subject to this problem. In the past year I have downloaded numerous CDs from the AMAZON MP3 download system with excellent results, during this time I have tried other download sources on the internet with varying results. I have pretty much settled in with AMAZON because of their reliability and user friendliness. Also during this period of time I have tried several different brands of CD-R discs with varying results such skips, dropouts and distortions, of course it is very difficult to determine if the problems are coming from the disc or the source. However, I will say this, since I have been using the MAXELL CD-R pro discs, I have downloaded 20 plus discs without any kinds of problems including our car players. In order not to drag this thing out, I would wrap up by saying that I would put the MP3 downloaded CD-R pro up against any prerecorded "Redbook" disc that I have heard. The CD-R pro preserves the clarity, small signal definition,lack of noise,great dynamics, sound stage information and bass weight and definition that I want and expect. Highly recommended.
CD-R Pro: best for wear resistance + proven longevity, second best for theoretical longevity August 27, 2008

I usually make 2 copies: 1 with Maxell CD-R Pro and 1 with Verbatim DataLifePlus Crystal. The DataLifePlus Crystal uses a newer Metal Azo process that is "theoretically" designed to last longer--and has a scratch resistant coating--and is about the same cost. However the CD-R Pro uses the traditional cyanine process which is already proven to last for decades--and is one of the few such discs that is labeled as "archival"--and has a triple-coated scratch resistance. I've used both for a year and have no complaints.
Currently I am backing up 16 audio CD's using two Sony internal drives and Nero Express with the "data verification" option checked. At the breakneck speed of 48x I had one failure to verify with a DataLifePlus. I reduced the speed to 40x and have had no problems since. (If necessary I will reduce down to 24x and still be happy with that speed. In the old days I often found it necessary to stay at 4x and if time allows would still do so for critical data.)

I have used only 17 of them so far. They record fine. Don't know about lasting, not enough time has passed. So far, so good. I am going to buy them again. Sharon

I have a simple dell computer with a standard burner(nothing fancy), but it's worked in the past. So my girlfriend buy these and thus far I've attempted 5 burns and only 1 is successful. I'm returning them.
