great GPS for the price December 3, 2008 i have owned several GPS units over the past few years. i was looking for an inexpensive model for a 3rd vehicle. i couldn't decide between this 4250 and the tomtom one xl-s, so i ordered BOTH OF THEM. i was going to keep one and give the other to my dad. i did a little head to head testing, and the maestro 4250 destroyed the tomtom in every category. faster, easier to navigate, easier to update online (tomtom's site didn't work for 2 days!), better POI's, better map colors, easier bluetooth connectivity (tomtom never worked with my iphone, maestro connected 1st time and sounded great on a test call!), maps were better, yada yada...you get the point. i hated the tomtom so much i sent it back to amazon and am ordering another 4250 for my dad. for the same price, it's a no brainer - get this one! got the refurbished unit at $119, free shipping. unbelievable deal!
Great Features... Poor Performance... December 2, 2008 This Maestro is great on the feature set. The Voice prompts alo work (for the most part). However, it is sluggish (Windows CE....) Slow to respond on the clicks. Also, the map was not up to date. Was disappointed with the inaccuracy and the slowness..
Magellan GPS 4250 Refurbished December 2, 2008 The unit came in excellent condition and has worked good. Have not experience any problems with it and it is a very good GPS for the money.
poor quality December 2, 2008 I purchased the 4250 refurbished when I got it there was a black line inside the screen that should not have been there. amazon let me return it and they replaced it with another refurbished unit. this one worked for about a week and it lost the voice recognition. I returned it and then bought a garmin nuvi 760. I have not yet recieved the refund for the 4250.
Magellan Maestro 4250 Purchase December 2, 2008 I purchased this GPS to replace my Magellan Roadmate 760 that stopped working. I paid about half the price that I would have paid in the store for a new one. When the Amazon GPS arrived it appears to be NEW. It functions great but you do need to update the firmware using the internet and the supplied USB cable. This systems is very easy to use and was orginally designed for use by Hertz rental cars which is where I first started using the Magellan systems. The new unit is much smaller, lighter and easier to mount. Included computer disk allows you to program your own locations via the USB using coordinates from programs such as Google Earth and such. This unit also has a rechargable battery so that you can use the GPS out of the car which I could never do before.
